Index Analyst - Schwab Asset Management Rotation Program

About the Role
A two-year analyst rotational program exposing candidates to four segments of SAM's index business: equity portfolio management, fixed income portfolio management, equity trading and capital markets, and fixed income trading and capital markets. Embedded within each distinct team for six months, supporting automation, process enhancement, and research projects. SAM manages over $1.7 trillion, with almost $700 billion in index strategies.

Responsibilities
- Support daily workflow in a highly automated, fast-paced environment
- Utilize analytics and investment software applications to conduct analysis supporting portfolio management and trading teams
- Analyze and research key topics relevant to SAM's index business (mutual funds, ETFs, creation/redemption mechanics, index methodologies)
- Complete ad hoc projects supporting equity/fixed income portfolio management and trading teams during each rotation
- Identify potential opportunities to further automate different parts of portfolio management and trading workflows
- Give presentations on key takeaways to senior members of the investment team

Requirements
- Graduate degree in Statistics, Economics, Finance, Mathematics/Computational Finance, Operations Research, Computer Science and/or Data Analytics/Science
- Interest in and/or experience using optimization software, multi-factor risk modeling, and statistical modeling of large complex data sets
- Strong working knowledge of Python, R, or other programming languages
- Team player mindset and ability to collaborate across organization
- Effective communicator with strong organizational and time-management skills
- Natural curiosity, problem solving, critical thinking and creativity
