About the Role
Facilitates communication between users and non-users of sign language in the educational environment at Douglas County School District. Works in classrooms, field trips, assemblies, and other educational sites. Provides interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students.
Responsibilities
- Interpret/transliterate from spoken English to sign language and vice versa
- Provide sound-based environmental information to DHH students
- Maintain appropriate records related to services provided
- Serve as liaison between DHH students, peers, parents, and school personnel
- Assist in deaf awareness orientation in schools
- Collaborate with DHH and classroom teachers
- May provide tutoring services under direction of certified teacher
- Respect confidentiality and adhere to IEPs
Requirements
- Educational Interpreter-Sign Language (PSE/ASL) CDE certification
- Associate's Degree in Education of the Deaf
- 1-3 years sign language interpreting experience preferred
- Frequent standing, sitting, and repetitive hand/arm movements
