Facilitates communication between users and non-users of sign language in the educational environment for Douglas County School District. Serves deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students across various school locations.
Responsibilities
- Interpret/Transliterate from spoken English to sign language and vice versa
- Maintain appropriate records related to services provided
- Serve as liaison between DHH students and school personnel
- Assist in development of deaf awareness orientation in schools
- Adhere to students' Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Provide sound-based environmental information to DHH students
- Collaborate with DHH and classroom teachers
- Provide tutoring services under direction of certified teacher
Requirements
- Educational Interpreter-Sign Language (PSE/ASL) - CDE certification
- Associate's Degree in Education of the Deaf
- 1-3 years of sign language interpreting/transliterating preferred
