Financial Administrator
New Hope Presbyterian Church
Position Purpose: Working under the general direction of the Senior Pastor and the Finance Committee, the Finance Administrator will have overall staff responsibility for all finance and accounting matters of New Hope Presbyterian Church.
Essential Roles
1. Perform bookkeeping including accounts payable, cash disbursements, cash receipts, general and subsidiary ledgers, fixed assets, contributions, pledges, and payroll.
2. Prepare all tax payroll reports.
3. Serve as ex-officio member of Finance Committee and the Board of Stewards
4. Prepare and present monthly financial and statistical reports for Finance Committee and Session.
5. Perform all treasury functions including cash management, investments, borrowing and debt compliance and serve as the principal liaison with banks and other lenders.
6. Oversee collecting, counting, and depositing of weekly offerings.
7. Serve as principal staff contact for congregation, committees, staff, and ministers on any church financial matters.
8. Serve as human resource officer for maintaining church policies and procedure documentation and church employment records.
9. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
Basic Duties
- Maintain, control, and determine compliance with all service, and lease contracts such as but not limited to liability insurance and workers compensation coverage, office equipment leases, phone and internet provider contracts, and IT contracts.
- Perform other record keeping and monthly reporting for various committees, teams, and membership groups.
- Assist in preparation of budgets for both operating and capital budgets.
- Assist with implementation and maintenance of annual pledge campaign.
- Prepare monthly account analyses and reconciliations.
- Assist with annual audit including preparation of required working papers, providing support documentation, and drafting GAAP financial statements.
- Develop and document accounting policies and procedures incorporating effective accounting controls over all church related activities including operations, restricted funds and capital funds.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an accurate fixed asset tracking system and related controls.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Record Retention policy and procedures.
- Oversee compliance with terms of all restricted funds.
- Ensure employee files are kept up to date and secured at all times.
- Periodically review and update the Employee Handbook.
- Attend Weekly Staff Meetings.
- Maintain Certificates of Insurance for all outside groups using New Hope facilities.
- Provide other finance related tasks as directed by the Senior Pastor.
General Responsibilities
- Understand and support the beliefs, vision, mission, and ministry of New Hope Presbyterian Church.
- Work collaboratively with other staff and support the staff values and norms, follow the Guidelines as stated in the Employee Handbook, and respect confidentiality.
- Represent Christ and New Hope Presbyterian Church with grace and hospitality.
Minimum Requirements
Faith
- Committed Follower of Jesus Christ.
- Holds beliefs that do not conflict with those of New Hope Presbyterian Church
Education
- Minimum of eighteen semester hours in accounting from an accredited college or technical school.
- Minimum of five years of experience in accounting and bookkeeping, preferably with churches or other non-profit entities.
Qualifications
- Proficiency working with canned accounting systems such as Church Windows, Shelby, ACS or QuickBooks.
- Proficiency with Office 365.
- Proficiency with database programs such as Subsplash to track and account for contributions.
- Excellent people skills.
- Good writing and communication skills.
- Familiarity with or willing to learn Statement of Financial Accounting Standards 116 and 117.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Works well independently.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $27.00 per hour
Expected hours: 22 – 25 per week
